Tragic Loss: Michigan College Student Connor Lotterman Fatally Shot in Intentional House Party Shooting

A college student in Michigan lost his life in a heartbreaking incident. On May 9, Connor Lotterman, a 19-year-old engineering student at Grand Valley State University, was shot at a house party in Tallmadge Township. Reports indicate that multiple gunshots were fired from an upstairs room, and one of those bullets struck Connor in the head.

The authorities have stated that the shooting was intentional. Captain Jake Sparks from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office described the chaos, noting that several rounds were intentionally discharged into the floor while around 10 to 20 people were at the party. “This was not an accidental discharge,” he said.

Connor was rushed to a local hospital, but he passed away on May 10, just three days before his 20th birthday. The coroner ruled his death an accident and mentioned that alcohol may have played a role in the tragic event. Capt. Sparks advised that firearms and alcohol should never mix, highlighting a crucial safety message for everyone.

The suspected shooter, a 20-year-old man, has not been publicly identified. Investigations are ongoing, and police are considering possible criminal charges.

Connor was a beloved member of his family, the youngest of five siblings. His sister, Marielle, shared a heartfelt message on social media, expressing her love and gratitude for their time together.

The Grand Valley community is mourning the loss of a promising young life. Dean of Students Aaron Haight shared condolences on behalf of the university, emphasizing the impact of Connor’s death on those who knew him.
