HONOLULU – The University of Hawai’i men’s volleyball team, ranked fourth, capped off an impressive weekend with a straight-set victory over No. 3 UC Irvine at SimpliFi Arena. The set scores were 25-22, 25-19, and 25-20.
The Rainbow Warriors (15-1, 2-0 BWC) dominated both matches in the series, showcasing their power. As a team, they hit a strong .374. Freshman Kristian Titriyski stood out, averaging six kills per set and finishing the match with 19 kills at an impressive .571 hitting percentage. Over the weekend, he amassed 36 kills from 60 attempts, ending with a .417 average.
In Sunday’s match, the Warriors excelled at blocking, recording 11 team blocks. Louis Sakanoko led the way with six blocks and also contributed 12 kills while hitting .440. Justin Todd added six kills and four blocks, while Kurt Nusterer pitched in with five blocks. Libero ‘Eleu Choy showed strong defensive skills with nine digs.
On the opposing side, UCI’s Hilir Henno was the top scorer with 17 kills.
In Set 1, the Anteaters led 19-16 before the Warriors rallied with a 7-1 run, helped by aces from Tread Rosenthal and Adrien Roure. Sakanoko and Titriyski finished off the set with back-to-back kills.
That momentum carried into the next sets, with UH jumping to a 9-4 lead in Set 2 and 7-1 in Set 3, never trailing thereafter.
Looking ahead, the Warriors face Lindenwood again this week for a two-match series on March 5 and March 7 at SimpliFi Arena.
