Samsung DeX is a standout feature for fans of Galaxy phones and tablets. It transforms your smartphone into a PC-like experience, enhancing productivity with its desktop view. Although One UI 7.0 didn’t bring significant updates to DeX, there’s hope for improvements with One UI 8.0, especially as Android 16 rolls out new features.

Android 16 Might Enhance Samsung DeX for External Displays

The latest beta version of Android 16 (Beta 2.1) shows promising updates for external display management. Google has improved how your Android device interacts with an external screen. Now, you can easily move the cursor and windows between your phone and the connected display.

Users can also rearrange the order of their screens. For example, if your phone is on the left and the monitor is on the right, you can set them up to mirror that arrangement in Android 16.

With the new beta, there’s a handy toggle to switch between two modes: display extension and display mirroring. In extension mode, each screen works independently. You can use one app on your phone while another runs on the external screen. In mirroring mode, everything on your phone shows up on the external display.

Similar to desktop systems like Macs and PCs, Android will allow users to adjust the size of icons and text. There are even plans for adjusting the refresh rates of internal and external displays separately.

Although we may not see these features in the initial stable release of Android 16, Google is expected to roll out a major update in mid-2025 that could include exciting enhancements for the desktop experience.
