Six climate groups in Kerry are set to receive a total of €37,500 in government grants. This funding comes from the Climate Actions Work Engagement scheme, announced by Environment Minister Darragh O’Brien. The goal of these grants is to help community groups spread awareness about climate action and engage more people in their areas.

Nationally, a total of €500,000 in grants will support 96 community groups across Ireland. Here’s how Kerry organizations will use their share:
- Maharees Conservation Association will receive €10,000 to create a podcast series that tells stories about climate awareness and resilience.
- Scotia Biodiversity Hub is set to get €10,000 as part of a project that includes individuals with intellectual disabilities in groundbreaking research.
- Dingle Creative and Innovation Hub – Mol Tec will receive €10,000 to develop engaging visuals and partnerships for climate action.
- Tralee Tidy Towns, Corca Dhuibhne Community Forum, and Fossa Climate Action Group will each benefit from €2,500.
Tralee Tidy Towns will use its grant to inspire the community to take climate action and illustrate the benefits of working together. This project aims to build social networks and enhance community engagement.
The Corca Dhuibhne Community Forum will use the funds to promote local climate action through events like Biodiversity and Bike Week, encouraging a zero-waste culture. Meanwhile, the Fossa Community Action Group plans to hold a sustainability fair and workshops to raise awareness about environmentally friendly practices.
This initiative highlights a growing trend of community-driven climate action. According to a recent survey by the Irish Environmental Protection Agency, over 70% of people are concerned about climate change, and many are looking to community groups for guidance and engagement. As these grants roll out, we may see more individuals inspired to take action locally, driving larger movements for change in the future.
