Unveiling the Epic Death Stranding 2 Trailer: Release Date, Exciting New Gameplay, and a Hint of Metal Gear Nostalgia – IGN

Hideo Kojima wowed the audience at SXSW 2025 in Austin, TX, as he unveiled an exciting new trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and announced its release date.

Death Stranding 2 is set to launch on June 26, 2025, exclusively for PlayStation 5. Fans who purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition or the Collector’s Edition will get to play two days early, starting June 24.

The 10-minute trailer features stunning cinematics and gameplay footage. It introduces a character named Neil, who many fans are comparing to Snake from Kojima’s beloved Metal Gear series.

Neil is portrayed by Italian actor Luca Marinelli. In the trailer, he dons a bandanna, reminiscent of Solid Snake, and commands a group of eerie soldiers. The resemblance to Solid Snake is striking.

Kojima praised Marinelli back in 2020, saying the actor could easily resemble Solid Snake if he wore a bandanna. His impressive performances in films like The Old Guard impressed Kojima and caught his attention.

The trailer doesn’t stop there. It features the Magellan Man, a gigantic tar-like creature fused with the DHV Magellan. This creature brings to mind Metal Gear Rex and appears to operate like a mech, battling enormous tar monsters.

The standard edition of Death Stranding 2 is priced at $69.99, with the Collector’s Edition at $229.99 and the Digital Deluxe Edition at $79.99. Pre-orders begin on March 17.

Continuing the narrative from 2019’s Death Stranding, the second installment challenges players with the question, “Should we have connected?”

Join Sam and his companions on an inspiring mission to save humanity from extinction. Together, they traverse a world filled with otherworldly foes and push the limits of human connection.

Kojima also announced an exciting global concert tour called The Strands of Harmony World Tour. It will travel to 19 cities, featuring an orchestra and singers performing the beautiful scores from the game. The tour starts on November 8, 2025, marking the sixth anniversary of Death Stranding’s launch, and will kick off at the Sydney Opera House.
