BENGALURU: Anil Agarwal-led Vedanta on Monday named industry veteran David Reed to move its semiconductor unit the place it’s trying to make investments $20 billion to fabricate chips important for cellphones to laptops and TV units.
In an interview with PTI, Agarwal stated the group is trying to begin manufacturing semiconductors at Dholera in Gujarat in 2-three years.
“We will start with $5 billion investment and scale it up as years go by,” he stated.
The semiconductors will likely be manufactured in three way partnership with Taiwanese electronics firm Foxconn. Vedanta holds a 63 per cent curiosity and the remaining is with Foxconn in the three way partnership.
The firm plans to initially produce 40,000 wafers a month.
Before becoming a member of Vedanta, Reed was with NXP Semiconductors, the place he was Executive Vice President and General Manager of world operations.
He moved to NXP as a part of the merger with Freescale Semiconductor, the place he had served as senior vice-president for manufacturing operations. Previously, David was vp and common supervisor at GlobalFoundries.
He started his profession at Texas Instruments in 1984, the place he served for 26 years in a wide range of management roles the world over.
In September 2022, Vedanta signed an MoU with Gujarat authorities to arrange India’s first semiconductor fab unit, a show fab unit, and a semiconductor assembling and testing unit in the state.
Vedanta Group has earlier introduced that the group has earmarked investments of as much as $20 billion for semiconductor business, and it plans to take a position $15 billion in the primary 10 years.
