Starmer to Host Virtual Leaders’ Meeting on Ukraine

By Damian Grammaticas, Political Correspondent

This week, Prime Minister Keir Starmer will host a virtual meeting with leaders from various countries. Scheduled for Saturday, the meeting will focus on forming a “coalition of the willing” to support Ukraine. This follows a recent summit he led at Lancaster House.

About 20 countries have shown interest in joining this coalition. However, not all are expected to send troops to Ukraine. Starmer’s discussions will include European nations and Commonwealth allies like Australia. The UK’s Defence Secretary, John Healey, is also in the mix for these talks.

In addition to the virtual meeting, Healey will travel to Paris this week. He and the French Defence Minister will host a military meeting with potential coalition members on Tuesday. Following that, Healey will join defence ministers from E5 countries—UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Poland—for further discussions on Wednesday.

As the situation evolves, the focus remains on how each country can contribute to supporting Ukraine amid ongoing discussions.
