Family and friends gather to pick up trash near the Dempster Street L Station in honor of their late 14-year-old son.

“We are doing this in honor of our late son who died a year and a half ago,” stated Aaron Shimer (high row, second from the left). Aaron and spouse Jeanine (backside row, proper) gathered household and pals to choose up trash close to the Dempster Street L Station on Earth Day. Their 14-year-previous son Rowan died in an equestrian accident simply earlier than the beginning of his freshman 12 months at ETHS in 2022. Every month, the household creates a crew to volunteer. Last month, they packed lunches for Connections for the Homeless. “For us, it’s therapy,” stated Aaron. Joining them (with extra to return) on the Main-Dempster Earth Day Clean-up are (high row, from left) Gwyn Volk, Aaron, David Powell, Anna Anderson, (backside row, from left) Joe Volk, Abby Perry, Celia Jefferson and Jeanine.
