🌍 Community Builders Awards: Celebrating the Environment Award Winner Who is Cultivating Hope for Future Generations πŸ’š

The Sault Climate Hub is a dedicated group of local citizens in Sault Ste. Marie focused on tackling climate change. Founded in 2019 with help from the Crane Institute for Sustainability, this non-partisan, citizen-led team aims to meet global greenhouse gas reduction targets.

One of their recent highlights is the Little Forests project. They planted a mini-forest at East View Public School using native plants. This new green space not only helps rebuild canopy cover but also supports local wildlife and serves as a living classroom for students and volunteers.

The hub regularly hosts webinars on YouTube, where community members and experts discuss climate and environmental issues. They also send out a quarterly newsletter, keeping everyone informed and engaged.

Recently, the Sault Climate Hub received the Environment Award at the SooToday Community Builders Awards, presented by Heritage Home Hardware. This honor highlights their ongoing efforts to educate and inspire the community.

β€œIt’s great to be recognized for our work,” said Ted McPherson, chair of the Sault Climate Hub. β€œWe believe our efforts are important for future generations.”

Their projects emphasize the need for education and community participation as essential solutions to climate issues. By fostering conversations and demonstrating how residents can contribute, the Sault Climate Hub has made a significant impact.

According to a 2022 survey by the Pew Research Center, about 71% of Americans believe climate change is a major threat, showing a growing awareness and concern for environmental issues. Grassroots movements like the Sault Climate Hub are vital in translating this concern into actions that create real change.

The Environment Award recognizes those who make meaningful contributions to the environment, whether through personal initiatives or community projects. The Sault Climate Hub showcases what can be achieved through collective effort toward sustainable practices.

Congratulations to the Sault Climate Hub for their well-deserved recognition!
