100 NFL Players Risk Super Bowl Ticket Penalties: What You Need to Know

At least 100 NFL players from about half of the league’s teams could face fines and even suspensions for selling their Super Bowl LIX tickets above face value. This is against league rules, and sources tell ESPN that the situation is serious.

According to league policies, players who break this rule will be fined 1.5 times the ticket’s value and will lose their ticket privileges for the next two Super Bowls. Those currently active in the game will still have the chance to buy tickets, but only if they accept the punishment. If they refuse, Commissioner Roger Goodell may suspend them.

An NFL memo has confirmed these findings, stating that players and team employees sold tickets to a few “bundlers” working with ticket resellers. Before the game, ticket prices on secondary websites were high—ranging from about $2,588 to nearly $3,500 for the cheapest seats, with some going over $10,000.

The memo emphasizes that selling tickets for more than their face value is a longstanding policy rooted in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. NFL chief compliance officer Sabrina Perel said a comprehensive investigation revealed multiple players and coaches were involved. Those with more significant roles in the ticket sales will face harsher penalties.

This incident highlights how valuable Super Bowl tickets have become. With increasing demand, it’s no surprise players have tried to cash in.
