12 Wheeling University Men’s Lacrosse Athletes Earn GMAC All-Academic Honors: Celebrating Excellence in Athletics and Academics!

Wheeling, W. Va. – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) recently recognized outstanding student-athletes with the Spring All-Academic List. The Wheeling University Men’s Lacrosse team is celebrating a strong year both on the field and in academics. This season, 12 players made the All-Academic list, marking the second consecutive year they’ve reached this achievement.

To be part of the GMAC All-Academic List, athletes need a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 and must be on the active roster for the season. The Cardinals had a remarkable on-field performance, reaching the GMAC Semifinals for the first time since 2018. They finished with an overall record of 8-7 and secured the #4 seed in the conference playoffs. Before losing to Seton Hill, they won an exciting home playoff game, marking their first home playoff appearance since 2011.

In total, eight GMAC programs made the All-Academic List. The Cardinals’ 12 honorees placed them fourth among those recognized, just behind Tiffin University, which had 25 honorees, and Walsh with 23. The Cardinals were close to matching last year’s record of 13 honorees. In fact, their all-time high for All-Academic recognitions occurred in 2023 when 14 players were honored.

As the Cardinals move into their off-season, they are focused on building on their successes and striving for even greater achievements in 2026. Balancing academic excellence with strong athletic performance is a goal that many teams aspire to, and the Wheeling men’s lacrosse team is demonstrating how it can be done.

In recent trends, an emphasis on maintaining GPA standards among college athletes has increased. A report from the NCAA shows that student-athletes are performing better academically than ever, with nearly 90% of them achieving a GPA of 2.3 or higher. This trend reflects a growing commitment to education within sports, leading to a brighter future for many teams like Wheeling’s.

By blending hard work in both sports and studies, the Wheeling University Men’s Lacrosse team is not just celebrating past successes but also laying down the groundwork for a promising future.
