Simi Fehoko shared on social media that he will join the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad if another team doesn’t claim him. On Wednesday, he made the list, becoming one of 13 players returning to the squad.

The Cardinals will soon fill the remaining slots on their practice squad, which can hold up to 16 players, plus an international player exemption. Team General Manager Monti Ossenfort and head coach Jonathan Gannon have a clear strategy for building the squad. Gannon breaks it down into three main areas: roster numbers, potential for player elevation, and development.

He noted, “If we think a guy’s just not quite ready, but we want to work with them and see where it can go, you balance those three buckets.” This approach is evident with players like undrafted rookie Elijah Simmons, Jeremiah Byers, and Elliott Brown, who show promise for growth.

Running back Michael Carter, who spent most of last season on the practice squad, returned this year too. He described his experience as tough but worthwhile, also emphasizing how a shift in mindset helped him embrace his role.

As of now, the Cardinals haven’t added a third quarterback to the practice squad, leaving Kyler Murray and Jacoby Brissett as the only signal-callers. It’s likely they’ll make that addition soon.

Gannon remarked on the fluid nature of the roster, common for all 32 NFL teams, especially in the opening weeks. “It’s probably not going to look the same in a couple of days, or even going into Week 1,” he added.
