Cooper Flagg is set to join a new team after the NBA Draft Lottery held in Chicago. The big news? The Dallas Mavericks snagged the No. 1 overall pick for June’s draft. Despite having only a 1.8% chance of this happening, their luck changed after a turbulent season that ended with a 39-43 record. The Mavs made a surprising trade, letting go of Luka Dončič to the Lakers just before the deadline. In the span of a few months, they have experienced two significant shifts in their franchise history.
Most experts predict that the Mavericks will choose Flagg, a standout two-way forward from Duke University, who has dominated college basketball this season and nearly swept the Player of the Year awards.
The Draft Lottery was full of surprises. The Philadelphia 76ers and the San Antonio Spurs also moved up to secure top spots, while teams like the Wizards and Pelicans were left disappointed. The Spurs landed the second pick, followed by the 76ers at third and the Hornets at fourth. The remaining picks from 5-14 are determined by the records of non-playoff teams, with playoff teams filling slots 15-30.
The complete order for the 2025 NBA Draft is now finalized. Notably, the Knicks lost their second-round pick due to a tampering investigation from last season, which sought to confirm whether they breached league rules to sign Jalen Brunson. However, with Brunson’s performance, they don’t seem too worried about the lost opportunity.
This year’s draft order heavily favors the Brooklyn Nets, who will make five selections—four in the first round and one in the second. The Utah Jazz aren’t far behind, also holding four picks. Such dynamics often lead to last-minute trades, particularly in the second round, making the draft even more unpredictable.
The 2025 NBA Draft will take place in New York shortly after the NBA Finals. The first round is on June 25, followed by the second on June 26, adding to the excitement for teams and fans alike.
