“Anora” had a stellar night at the 2025 Oscars, winning five awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, during the 97th Academy Awards.

Sean Baker, who wore many hats for “Anora” as director, writer, editor, and co-producer, took home four Oscars. This achievement ties him with Walt Disney for the most wins by one person in a single year. While Disney amassed his four awards for different films back in 1954, Baker accomplished this feat with just one.

This year, “Emilia Pérez” led with 13 nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. Karla Sofía Gascón made history as the first transgender woman to be nominated for Best Actress for her role in the film. However, her campaign faced some backlash due to controversial social media posts. The Best Actress award ultimately went to Mikey Madison for “Anora.”

Zoe Saldaña made waves as the first American of Dominican descent to win an Oscar, claiming the award for Best Supporting Actress. “Emilia Pérez,” while nominated in many categories, only secured two wins overall.

Other films like “Wicked” and “The Brutalist” entered the night with ten nominations each, vying for multiple categories.

Adrian Brody captured his second Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of architect László Tóth in “The Brutalist.” He previously won at just 29 years old for “The Pianist,” making him the youngest Best Actor winner at that time. This year, Timothée Chalamet was also a contender for his performance as Bob Dylan in “A Complete Unknown,” but he couldn’t break Brody’s record. The category included strong performances from Ralph Fiennes, Colman Domingo, and Sebastian Stan, the latter of whom could have been the first actor to win for portraying a sitting U.S. president.

This year’s ceremony was hosted by Conan O’Brien, marking his first time leading the Oscars after hosting the Emmys twice.
