PlayStation recently shared the list of the most downloaded PS5 games of 2025 for North America and Europe.
Not surprisingly, annual sports titles dominated the charts. NBA 2K26 took the top spot in North America, while EA Sports FC 26 was the favorite in Europe. Other familiar names followed closely, with Grand Theft Auto V and Minecraft still enjoying massive popularity.
Interestingly, Forza Horizon 5 performed well in Europe, landing in fourth place, but only reached fourteenth in North America. This shows how regional preferences can vary. Notably, Forza, a former Xbox exclusive, edged out Sony’s Ghost of Yōtei in Europe, highlighting the success of Xbox titles on the PS5 despite their origins.
Ghost of Yōtei, however, found a better reception in North America, making it into the top ten behind the popular multiplayer game ARC Raiders. On the flip side, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 struggled, ranking seventh in both regions—somewhat low for a franchise known for high sales.
Interestingly, the acclaimed game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 garnered awards but only managed to hit tenth in Europe and eighteenth in North America. It raises questions about how awards influence sales. Many anticipated titles like Hollow Knight: Silksong and Death Stranding 2 didn’t make the cut, which highlights how market dynamics change rapidly.
Checking the overall trends, it’s clear that gamers are leaning towards familiar franchises, particularly in sports and action genres. As of early 2025, statistics show that nearly 50% of gamers prefer familiar titles over new entries, according to a recent survey by Game Industry Insights.
In summary, this year’s download charts reflect ongoing preferences but also underscore the shifts in player engagement based on regional tastes. The gaming landscape continues to evolve, influenced by user expectations and the continuous push for innovation.
