In early January, new TVs were unveiled at the CES trade show, but in 2025, they arrived much sooner than expected. As a reviewer, it feels like I’ve been surrounded by screens for months. Usually, I share my top picks later in the year, but I’m excited to highlight three standout models today, chosen for their performance and value.
First, a few trends to note. This year, TVs are achieving impressive brightness levels. Traditionally, high brightness was a hallmark of mini-LED TVs. However, some leading OLEDs, like the LG G5 and Samsung S95F, are now reaching over 2,000 nits. This is a game-changer for viewing in bright rooms.
Another trend is the growing adoption of matte screens and anti-glare coatings in premium models. Samsung is fully committed to this with its Glare Free technology, allowing their TVs to shine even in well-lit spaces. Other brands, such as LG, Hisense, TCL, and Sony, are also enhancing their models with effective anti-reflective screens.
Lastly, if you’re considering a new TV, early discounts are worth mentioning. In the past, major price cuts usually waited until Amazon Prime Day in July. This year, many TVs have already seen significant price drops right after release, reflecting a highly competitive market.
1. LG G5
The LG G5 is remarkable for its innovative OLED panel. In my tests, it exceeded 2,000 nits of peak brightness—a level often found in mini-LED TVs. This, combined with its anti-reflective screen, makes it ideal for bright viewing conditions.
The G5’s design is sleek, fitting seamlessly on walls. It also features four HDMI 2.1 ports for gamers, supporting 4K at 165Hz and innovative gaming technologies like Nvidia G-Sync and Dolby Vision Gaming. Currently, the 65-inch model is priced at $3,199, which reflects its impressive capabilities.
2. Samsung QN90F
The Samsung QN90F stands out as a flexible mini-LED option with sizes ranging from 43 to 98 inches. My tests showed it reaching a peak brightness of 2,068 nits and featuring the same Glare-Free matte screen that enhances viewing comfort.
This model excels in motion handling, making it fantastic for sports enthusiasts. The sound system is solid, and it is equipped with an enhanced smart TV platform that includes support for art displays. Its pricing has dropped significantly, offering great value for a versatile TV experience.
3. Hisense U8QG
Hailed as Hisense’s flagship, the U8QG packs a punch with a dazzling peak brightness of 3,337 nits. This brightness, combined with its local dimming features, produces vibrant colors and deep blacks, making it perfect for movie lovers.
The U8QG’s three HDMI 2.1 ports cater to gamers, boasting a low input lag of just 9.9ms. Though it may have a minor audio issue with bass-heavy films, it’s a terrific option at a lower price point. Priced under $1,300 for the 65-inch version, it could be one of the best TV deals available right now.
Overall, if you’re in the market for a new TV in 2025, these three models offer impressive features and value, keeping in line with current trends and user needs.
