2029 World Police & Fire Games: Amit Shah Celebrates Bharat’s Proud Role as Host

Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently shared his excitement about India hosting the 2029 World Police and Fire Games. He highlighted this as a proud moment for the country. Shah noted that the international recognition showcases India’s growing sports infrastructure, the result of efforts under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Ahmedabad will be the venue for this significant event, which brings together police, fire, and disaster service participants to compete in over 50 sports.

These games have been held every two years since 1985, with 20 editions completed so far. The majority have taken place in the USA, followed by Canada, Europe, the UK, and China. The event welcomes both current and retired personnel from various emergency services.

India first took part in the games in Adelaide in 2007. Recently, at the games in Winnipeg, Canada, from July 26 to August 6, 2023, the Indian Police team made history by winning 343 medals, including 224 gold. Since joining the games, the Indian contingent has garnered over 1,400 medals across eight editions.

The selection process for the Indian team is based on performance in the annual All India Police Games. This event is managed by the All India Police Sports Control Board, which comprises 53 member organizations, including various security agencies. Gold medalists from these games are typically chosen for the World Police and Fire Games.

These upcoming games will not only highlight India’s sports prowess but also enhance international cooperation among emergency services. According to a recent survey, global participation in such events helps improve team building and cross-cultural understanding among participating nations. Thus, as we look forward to 2029, there’s much anticipation surrounding India’s role as a host and its impact on global community engagement.
