240 Lexicon University Students Achieve Welding and Maintenance Certifications: A Pathway to Enhanced Careers!

Lexicon University celebrated a significant milestone today by graduating its largest class since it opened in 2022. A total of 240 students earned certifications in welding and industrial maintenance—skills that are crucial in Arkansas’s thriving steel industry.

Catherine Brumbaugh, the Director of Training and Development, shared her excitement about the event. She said, “It’s thrilling to see how we’re helping Arkansas and contributing to the steel sector by focusing on the growth of our people.”

Since launching formal training programs just over a year ago, Lexicon has made a noticeable impact on the state’s economy. Brumbaugh noted, “We’ve been training for 56 years, and now it’s even more structured.”

Graduate Tyler Greenwell expressed how beneficial this hands-on training has been. “At first, I thought, why not? Now, after about a year and a half, I see how much it helps us,” he said. His training involved practical skills with pumps, motors, and bearings, preparing him well for the workforce.

Looking ahead, Lexicon has plans to broaden its programs. Brumbaugh mentioned, “We want to add more trades programs and also develop leadership skills in our students.” According to her, cultivating leadership is essential in retaining talent because “Lexicon is a people company, not just a steel company.”

In the context of the growing demand for skilled workers in industries like steel, Lexicon University stands ready to fill vital gaps. Data shows that the steel industry in Arkansas is projected to grow by 15% in the next five years, increasing the need for trained professionals.
