42 Game-Changing Climate Projects Selected by the Ministry of Agriculture to Cut Nearly 1 Million Tonnes of CO2 – Discover the Impact with Fundación Biodiversidad!

The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Environment has announced the selection of 42 Climate Projects for 2014. These initiatives aim to cut emissions by nearly one million tonnes of CO2. They focus on various sectors like transport, agriculture, and waste management, which are known as “diffuse sectors.”

Through the Carbon Fund, the ministry buys verified emission reductions from these projects, helping to tackle climate change while also stimulating the economy. The initiative not only helps in reducing greenhouse gases but also promotes job creation.

In this latest call for projects, the ministry received more than 100 proposals. Out of these, 80 were invited to submit detailed plans. Eventually, the final 42 projects were chosen based on their potential impact.

The selected projects span multiple regions in Spain and cover a wide range of sectors. The residential sector contributed the highest number of proposals, followed closely by agriculture and industry. Notably, the new focus on the F-gas sector has introduced fresh opportunities for emission reductions.

A significant 50% of the chosen projects are “programmatic” proposals. This means they group together smaller activities under a broader action plan, making it easier to implement initiatives that may otherwise be too small to tackle individually.

Looking ahead, the Governing Council has also set the foundation for more initiatives in 2015, with plans for additional calls for Climate Project credits.

Recent research shows that climate projects can lead to significant economic benefits. According to a report by the Global Commission on the Economy and Climate, every dollar invested in climate resilience can yield up to four dollars in economic returns. This emphasizes the importance of projects like these that aim not only to fight climate change but also to drive economic growth.
