The shooting occurred around 4:06 a.m. on Mission Street, according to a police spokesperson. Although two groups were involved in an altercation that led to the shooting, White was not part of it.
He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he underwent successful surgery. The team confirmed his condition, and White shared an update on Instagram, thanking everyone for their support. He expressed optimism, stating, “I’m in great spirits and ready to make the most of this offseason.”
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing. This incident comes just hours after the Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX, held about 40 miles away from where the shooting took place. White had attended the game and was spotted wearing a Patriots hat.
White, 27, was traded to the 49ers in October after being drafted by the Patriots with the 46th overall pick in 2023. During the season, he recorded 18 tackles and 1.5 sacks over 14 games. He has one year left on his four-year, $7.7 million contract.
This isn’t the first time a 49ers player has faced gun violence. Ricky Pearsall, a wide receiver, was shot in the chest during a robbery attempt before his rookie season but managed to return to play 11 games.
