New Delhi, Oct 11 – Brady Ellison, a five-time Olympic medallist, is currently competing in the Archery Premier League (APL), the first professional league of its kind. He praised the growth of archery in India, noting that Indian archers are challenging top competitors from around the world.
Ellison, who represents the Chola Chiefs, was impressed by India’s ability to successfully host the APL. “It’s amazing what they’ve accomplished,” he said. He pointed out that archery formats have remained largely the same for many years. The APL introduces a fresh challenge for archers globally.
“I am ranked number one in the world, and this is the toughest tournament I’ve ever been part of,” he shared. He emphasized the significance of the league, saying it’s not just about gathering top shooters; it’s inspiring young athletes everywhere. “Getting an invite to this league could become as important as making the Olympic team,” he added.
Ellison also lauded the performance of Indian archers, stating that they’re improving rapidly and becoming strong contenders. He highlighted the success of India’s compound archers and noted that the recurve team is also making strides. Recent stats show that India’s compound archers rank among the best globally, and several recurve archers are competing at the World Cup level.
According to a recent report by the World Archery Federation, India’s archery participation has surged by 30% in just five years, thanks partly to initiatives that encourage youth involvement. This growth suggests that India is on track for future Olympic success.
