8-Year-Old Boy Celebrates Birthday by Organizing Heartwarming Food Drive to Help Those in Need

CHICAGO – A boy in Chicago decided to skip the usual birthday cake and balloons this year. Instead, for his 8th birthday, Alex Anning wanted to help those in need by organizing a food drive.

Living in Tinley Park, Alex’s house transformed into a busy hub of activity. His mother, Kymbria Young, shared that the idea came about after Alex saw a homeless man. “The light turned green, and we couldn’t give him money. Alex felt really upset,” she said.

Wiping away his tears, Alex set a new goal. With support from his mom’s nonprofit organization, Season to Soar, he wanted to help over 150 neighbors with free groceries.

“We just grab the food and put it in the bags. The more you add, the heavier they get,” Alex explained. His reasoning for this generous act? It’s good for the community and the planet.

“I’m so proud of him,” Kymbria said. “It’s inspiring to see him lead and serve the community. I hope others are inspired too.”

Alex is already excited about the possibility of hosting another food drive for his next birthday. He and his cousins are learning that giving often feels better than receiving.

Recent studies show that acts of kindness can boost happiness, making this birthday plan even more significant. Research from the Journal of Happiness Studies found that people who engage in charitable activities report higher life satisfaction.

In a world where many feel disconnected, Alex’s story reminds us of the power of community. It shows that compassion can come from even the youngest among us, proving that small acts can lead to meaningful change.
