Bailey’s parents, Lane and Peggy Kugler, shared that Jeremy had battled mental health issues for years. “His depression had turned into psychosis,” they explained, emphasizing that it was his illness, not the man he truly was, that led to this tragedy. Tragically, just days before the incident, Jeremy had been released from a mental health facility, and Bailey had shared her concerns about his ongoing struggles.

In her last posts, she expressed optimism about a new treatment option at Serene Mental Health in Kearney, feeling hopeful for the future. However, the Kuglers lamented the dire state of mental health care in the U.S., stating that “far too many diseased minds have nowhere to go.”
