The Sony Xperia 1 VII is making waves again, building on its predecessor with some exciting updates. It now flaunts two new colors: Moss Green and Orchid Purple, making it stand out a bit more.
The design remains familiar, featuring the same 6.5-inch display, 5,000mAh battery, and a triple camera setup. However, there are notable enhancements that users will appreciate.
The main camera is a 24mm f/1.9 wide-angle lens with a 1/1.35-inch Exmor T sensor. It still offers OIS (optical image stabilization) and Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF). The telephoto lens has an 85mm-170mm f/2.3-f3.5 configuration, allowing for impressive zoom capabilities, including telemacro features that focus as closely as 4cm at 120mm.
This year’s standout feature is the ultrawide camera, which now has a brighter f/2.0 aperture and a 1/1.56-inch sensor, making it 2.1 times larger than before. This should significantly improve low-light performance and overall image quality.
What’s particularly exciting is the AI-powered enhancements in the camera system. It boasts real-time eye autofocus for both humans and pets, AI subject recognition, and ultra HDR support. These features are designed to elevate your photography experience, making it easier to capture stunning shots.
Audio quality also got a boost. The Xperia 1 VII still includes a 3.5mm headphone jack but now uses higher-quality components to reduce audio loss. Plus, the built-in microSD card slot allows you to expand the 256GB of storage easily.
The device is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, paired with 12GB of RAM and includes Wi-Fi 7, which is twice as fast as its predecessor’s Bluetooth. The display is a 10-bit 6.5-inch 1080x2340px Bravia 120Hz OLED panel, now 20% brighter than before, offering excellent visibility even in bright conditions thanks to its dual brightness sensors.
Sound quality is improved through a collaboration with Sony Music Entertainment, offering richer bass and mid-range frequencies from its full-stage stereo speakers.
Despite not having groundbreaking specs, the 5,000mAh battery lasts impressively long; users can expect about two full days of usage and up to 36 hours of video playback. The phone also features Sony’s battery care technologies, which help maintain battery health for four years, with minimal capacity loss.
The Xperia 1 VII runs on Android 15 and promises at least four OS updates and six years of security fixes, ensuring longevity for users.
It will be available in three colors—Slate Black, Moss Green, and Orchid Purple—and starts at €1,499 when it ships in June.
In a smartphone market teeming with options, the Xperia 1 VII stands out for its focus on photography and audio fidelity. With its powerful specs and lasting software support, it’s a solid choice for tech enthusiasts.
