Unlock Your Talent: Vernon Performing Arts Centre Offers 5 Exciting Bursaries for Aspiring Artists!

Students from Vernon can now apply for $5,000 bursaries aimed at those studying the performing arts. This opportunity is available for five students who will attend college or university this fall, focusing on subjects like music, theater, dance, or arts management.

The Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre (VDPAC) has opened the application process. Graduating students from Vernon, Coldstream, or nearby areas can apply even if they haven’t yet received their acceptance letters. This year’s deadline is Friday, May 16, giving the committee enough time to announce winners before local graduation ceremonies.

Jim Harding, the executive director of VDPAC, notes, “We hope this new timeline helps students plan better for their futures.” The committee, made up of three board members, will review applications and recommend the best candidates for the awards.

In previous years, these bursaries have aided many students in pursuing their dreams in the arts. For instance, last year’s recipients included Zachary Friesen, who is studying music composition in England, and Madison Irwin, who is advancing her theater performance degree at the University of Victoria.

Statistics show a growing interest in performing arts programs. A 2021 survey by the National Endowment for the Arts found that enrollment in such programs increased by 15% over the past decade, indicating a vibrant future for arts education.

To apply, students can visit the VDPAC website for more information on the bursary program. This is a fantastic chance to support local talent and help them embark on their artistic journeys.
