Severe Weather Postpones Round 3 at PGA: What You Need to Know

Charlotte, N.C. — The weather has been tricky at the PGA Championship. Heavy rain and lightning have delayed tee times for the crucial third round at Quail Hollow Club, pushing them back by over three hours. Instead of starting at 8:15 a.m. ET, play is now set to begin at 11:43 a.m. ET.

Seventy-four players made the cut after two rounds, and they will tee off in groups of three from the first and tenth holes. Jhonattan Vegas, leading by two strokes, will kick off his round at 1:55 p.m. ET alongside Matthieu Pavon and Matt Fitzpatrick, both sitting at six under par.

Scottie Scheffler, the world’s top-ranked golfer, is not far behind at five under. He will start his game with Max Homa and Si Woo Kim at 1:44 p.m. ET. Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy, who barely made the cut at one over, will tee off on the tenth hole along with defending champion Xander Schauffele, also at one over, and Chris Kirk.

This rain problem isn’t new. Prior to the tournament, heavy downpours left the course drenched, making things tricky for players during practice rounds. Over four inches of rain fell, and some players have expressed frustration. They believe the PGA should allow preferred lies, letting them clean and place their balls in certain areas.
