Elon University Baseball’s Heartbreaking Loss to UNCW: What Went Wrong in the Season Finale

Elon faced a tough end to its regular season, losing to the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, with a final score of 9-5. This defeat capped off a rocky season, where Elon finished with a 24-30 record and 13-14 in conference play. The Seahawks swept the series, having also won the previous two games.

The Phoenix managed some hits but had difficulty converting them into runs—a problem they faced throughout the season. Huffstetler pointed out that while they got players on base, converting those opportunities into scores was lacking.

In the eighth inning, Elon managed to load the bases and scored three runs, narrowing the deficit. However, they fell short in the ninth, leaving them with a loss. Elon will head to the CAA Tournament on May 21, entering with momentum and determination to improve their batting.
