The Food and Care Coalition has been a beacon of hope in Utah County since 1988. This nonprofit organization focuses on fighting poverty and homelessness with compassion and support. Recently, they served their 3 millionth meal, highlighting the ongoing need within the community. As the saying goes, “The poor will always be with you.” This reality remains a significant challenge.
Collaboration is key to the coalition’s success. They understand that one organization can’t handle everything alone. By partnering with like-minded groups, they offer a wide range of services that help bring stability and dignity to those in crisis. Having onsite partners makes a big difference. It’s easier for clients to find the help they need all in one place. Currently, they work with:
- Wasatch Behavioral Health: Offers vital mental health services.
- Mountainlands Community Health Center: Provides essential medical and dental care.
- My Story Matters: Empowers individuals to take charge of their futures with confidence and resilience.
In addition to these partners, over 30 others contribute to outreach efforts covering areas like legal support, veteran assistance, and mentoring. This network ensures that people facing homelessness or poverty receive comprehensive care, addressing both immediate challenges and long-term goals like health, education, and jobs.
Brent Crane, the coalition’s executive director, notes, “Our partnerships allow us to treat the whole person. Together, we offer hope and sustainable solutions.” This approach underscores the importance of community participation. Volunteers and donors play critical roles in this mission, helping uplift those working hard to rebuild their lives.
Recent statistics reveal a rising trend in food insecurity across the U.S. According to the USDA, about 10.5% of American households were food insecure in 2021. This highlights the vital role organizations like the Food and Care Coalition play in fighting hunger and promoting well-being.
