Iowa State University Rises in NCAA Championships: Day Two Highlights and Insights

CARLSBAD, Calif. – The Iowa State women’s golf team made a strong move at the NCAA Championships. They jumped six spots, now sitting at 22nd place after cutting 12 strokes from their first round score.

Leading the charge was Pammy Chookaew, who shot an even-par 72. She started with back-to-back bogeys but quickly bounced back with birdies on the fourth and fifth holes. By the end of the round, she climbed 44 spots to land in 67th place, sitting at five-over par.

Nichakorn Pinprayoon also had a solid round, finishing just one over par. With three birdies, including two on the back nine, she improved her position by 30 spots and now ranks 93rd at seven-over par.

Keeley Marx shot a two-over 74, moving up 11 spots to 67th. She opened her day with a birdie and added another on the 14th hole, bringing her score to five-over for the tournament.

Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn shot a three-over 75, landing in 117th place overall. Her lone birdie came on the par-3 16th hole, leaving her at nine-over par.

Alexandra Vidal struggled with an eight-over 80, placing her 137th as she sits 12 strokes over par.

Stanford now leads the team competition after a strong second round of 278, holding a five-stroke advantage over Northwestern. On the individual side, Mississippi State’s Avery Weed, ranked 39th nationally, leads individually at seven-under par.

The third round is set for Sunday at 2:45 p.m. (CT). After this round, the top-15 teams and nine individual players not on advancing teams will be determined. The final 18 holes on Monday will decide which teams proceed to match play and who wins the individual championship.
