Xbox has just launched a new streaming service called Retro Classics for Game Pass members. This service is a partnership with Antstream Arcade, a platform that delivers over 1,300 retro games. More than 60 of these are classic Activision titles from the ’80s and ’90s, including popular games like Commando and Pitfall.
The service is designed for nostalgia seekers and includes features like community challenges and leaderboards. Players can track their scores, unlock Xbox achievements, and save their progress to continue later. It’s available on Xbox consoles, PCs, and streaming devices like certain Smart TVs and Amazon Fire TV.
Game Pass subscribers also get a special deal: a year of the full Antstream Arcade catalog for just $9.99. This offer is valid until June 4.
According to Steve Cottam, CEO of Antstream, this partnership showcases iconic gaming for a new audience. He noted how proud they are to bring these classics back into the spotlight.
The launch lineup features 61 games, including titles like:
- Activision Prototype #1 (Atari 2600)
- The Adventures of Willy Beamish (Amiga)
- Commando (Atari 2600)
- Pitfall (Atari 2600)
Retro gaming is gaining popularity, especially among millennials who grew up playing these games. A recent survey found that 68% of gamers enjoy playing retro titles, citing nostalgia as the primary reason.
This trend aligns with a broader shift in gaming preferences. Older titles often come with simpler mechanics and more straightforward storytelling, appealing to players seeking a break from modern complexity. As the gaming industry evolves, the desire to look back at simpler times grows stronger.
