Join the ‘Faith for Climate Action’ Initiative: Transforming Kebbi’s Future Together

The youth-led social enterprise eTrash2Cash has kicked off a new initiative called Faith for Climate Change Action (#F4CCA) in Kebbi State. The project’s goal is to teach beneficiaries effective ways to manage waste.

To make this project successful, eTrash2Cash is looking to partner with the state government, religious groups, community leaders, and other stakeholders. This collaboration aims to help create a cleaner, healthier environment in the North-Western region of Nigeria.

Mohammed Chiroma Hassan, the project’s lead, emphasized that the initiative addresses climate change issues and supports sustainable living. He stated that eliminating environmental waste can lead to healthier communities. The project also intends to create job opportunities for young people by allowing them to exchange plastic waste for money. This model not only helps the environment but also encourages economic stability for youth.

According to recent studies, countries that prioritize waste management and recycling see significant economic benefits. The Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Musa Muhammad Tungulawa, highlighted the project’s importance, especially as climate action becomes more urgent. During a meeting with eTrash2Cash members, he voiced support for their efforts, noting that young people playing a role in environmental improvement and job creation is vital for the state’s future.

The commissioner pointed out that Nigeria’s growing population leads to more waste. If this issue is not addressed, it could harm agriculture and the environment. He also mentioned that reducing plastic waste can improve soil health, directly benefiting food production.

The Faith for Climate Change Action project will operate in various communities across Kebbi, utilizing religious institutions as centers for waste collection. These organizations have strong trust within the community and can greatly assist in spreading awareness about the project’s goals.
