“It was a setback for Gouach,” Vallette shared. “But we believed in our technology, so we created our own battery casing.” Now, Gouach’s casing meets the strict IP67 standards and adheres to UL 2271 guidelines.
Gouach recently released a video showcasing its battery case’s fire resistance, highlighting their commitment to safety and innovation.
Vallette sees three main ways to sell the Infinite Battery. First, they want to partner with e-bike manufacturers to integrate their technology. Second, they aim to support e-bike owners and small bike shops facing battery issues. Lastly, there’s a growing interest from DIY enthusiasts who want to build their own e-bikes.
The Infinite Battery will come in both 36V and 48V models. Gouach’s app is designed to simplify connections to various bikes. However, fitting the battery can be tricky. Some bikes will use the existing battery slot, while others might require mounting on a rack or using innovative frame attachments.
Compatibility poses a significant challenge. Vallette noted that integrating with Bosch’s mid-drive motors was tough due to encryption. However, after dedicated efforts, Gouach’s app will work seamlessly with them.
Gouach has raised over $220,000 through crowdfunding on Indiegogo from about 500 supporters, along with $3.5 million in venture funding, which is pushing them closer to opening their own storefront. They are in the mass production phase, currently resolving issues related to bugs and certifications. EU backers can expect their kits by June, with plans for a U.S. launch and an online store to follow. However, U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports have posed challenges, as Vallette mentioned, but they are actively working to navigate these obstacles.
Gouach’s DIY kit emphasizes a fresh approach to e-bike batteries; they promote thinking of them as individual components rather than large, single-use products. This shift could inspire future innovations in the e-bike market, where repairability and sustainability become key. As e-bikes grow in popularity—a recent report showed a 145% increase in e-bike sales in the last two years—the demand for solutions like Gouach’s will likely rise.
