Box Office Buzz: ‘Lilo & Stitch’ Soars with $14.5 Million in Previews, While ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’ Hits Franchise Record with $8.3 Million!

Disney’s live-action remake of “Lilo & Stitch” and Paramount’s “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” are set to make a splash this Memorial Day Weekend. Together, they promise to be a box office hit.

So far, “Lilo & Stitch” has brought in an impressive $14.5 million in previews, while “Mission: Impossible” earned $8.3 million. This is a record for both films—“The Final Reckoning” has the highest preview earnings in its franchise’s history, topping the previous record set by “Dead Reckoning” in 2023. Meanwhile, “Lilo & Stitch” is on track for the highest preview of the year.

Forecasts suggest “Lilo & Stitch” could rake in between $150 million and $160 million over the long weekend. Some experts even believe it could surpass those projections. On the other hand, “Mission: Impossible” is expected to earn about $75 million to $85 million, landing it in the second spot. If all goes as projected, this Memorial Day could see an impressive total at the box office, potentially breaking records from previous years.

In 2013, the holiday weekend set a benchmark of $306 million, driven by films like “Fast & Furious 6” and “Star Trek Into Darkness.” Last year was a different story, marking the lowest earnings in 30 years with just $32 million for “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.”

Looking ahead, “Lilo & Stitch” is also anticipated to collect another $125 million internationally, which would give it a stunning global take of around $275 million to $285 million. This positions it among the top live-action remakes, alongside past hits like “The Lion King” and “Beauty and the Beast.”

“Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” carries a hefty production cost of about $400 million, making it one of the priciest films ever. Its costs are attributed to pandemic delays, Hollywood strikes, and rising inflation. It is projected to earn an additional $125 million to $130 million worldwide, crossing the $200 million mark overall. However, to justify its budget, it will need to keep audiences coming back for those thrilling stunts.

As movie-goers gear up for what promises to be an exciting weekend, it seems that both films could bring a much-needed boost to the box office, reigniting interest in cinema after a challenging year.
