Timberwolves Dominate Thunder in Game 3
In a thrilling Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals, the Minnesota Timberwolves crushed the Oklahoma City Thunder 143-101. Anthony Edwards shined with 30 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists, leading the Wolves to a much-needed win that brought the series to 2-1.
Julius Randle added 24 points, while rookie Terrence Shannon Jr. contributed 15 points in just 13 minutes. The Wolves really mixed things up this game, adjusting their strategy against a Thunder defense that had previously been the best in the NBA.
On the Thunder side, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the league’s MVP, struggled. He only scored 14 points and shot 4-for-13 from the field. It was a tough night for him, as he was pulled from the game with just over four minutes left in the third quarter. The Thunder fell behind early and could never recover, trailing by at least 22 points throughout much of the game.
The Timberwolves’ victory marked the biggest win for a team facing a 2-0 deficit in NBA playoff history. Historically, teams that lose the first two games rarely bounce back, but this was a powerful statement from the Wolves.
The Thunder’s shooting dropped off significantly on the road. After making half their shots in the first two games, they struggled, finishing the first half at just 12-for-40. The Target Center crowd added to the pressure, directing their frustration toward Gilgeous-Alexander with boos and chants.
Randle, who had a weak showing in Game 2, came back stronger, showcasing his famous fadeaway and better defensive skills. Edwards also regained his shooting form, nailing 5-for-8 from three-point range after a poor performance last game.
As the Wolves dominated the third quarter, they didn’t allow the Thunder any chance to fight back. Edwards made some impressive plays, including a spectacular reverse layup that electrified the crowd.
The Thunder now face a steep challenge. Historically, no team losing by 40 points in a playoff game has gone on to win the championship.
As the Timberwolves celebrate this significant win, the Thunder must regroup quickly before their next matchup in Minneapolis on Monday. The series is tightly contested, and it will be crucial for both teams to adapt moving forward.
