Mary Lou Retton, the Olympic gold medalist, was recently arrested for DUI in West Virginia. She was taken into custody on May 17 in Marion County, facing a misdemeanor charge. The 57-year-old posted a $1,500 bond and was released the same day.
This news comes on the heels of a health scare earlier this year when her family revealed she had been battling a serious case of pneumonia. Retton spent time in the ICU, and her situation was so critical that they turned to crowdfunding for help, raising over $200,000 in just one day.
In an inspiring interview on “Today” in January 2024, she reflected on her recovery: “I am so grateful to be here. I am blessed to be here, because there was a time when they were about to put me on life support.” Her journey has resonated widely, highlighting her resilience and the support from her fans and the community.
Mary Lou Retton is best known for her remarkable achievements at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, where she made history by winning the all-around gold medal. This victory marked a significant milestone, as she became the first American woman to achieve this feat.
