Following EA’s decision to cancel its Black Panther game and close the studio behind it, the company reassured fans that its partnership with Marvel is still strong. EA confirmed it is working on “at least three” other Marvel games.
The Black Panther game was announced in 2023, but not much was shared about it until the cancellation news broke alongside employee layoffs. EA Entertainment president Laura Miele explained that this decision would help EA focus on more significant growth opportunities.
Despite the cancellation, Miele emphasized that the Iron Man game, also developed by EA Motive, remains unaffected. However, this move raised concerns among some fans about the future of the three-game deal with Marvel. EA clarified that the deal is still on track, stating, “The multi-title, long-term relationship between Marvel Games and EA… remains strong.”
This cancellation is part of a larger trend at EA. This year alone, the company has laid off over 300 employees, with studios like Respawn Entertainment losing about 100 staff members. EA also scrapped several in-development projects, including a new Titanfall game, in an effort to focus on its long-term strategic goals.
Interestingly, another Black Panther game is being developed by Skydance Games, led by Uncharted writer Amy Hennig. This project has faced delays, pushing its release into next year.
