HACAP Mobile Food Pantry is Coming to Riverside and Brighton
The Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP) is making it easier for neighbors in need by bringing its Mobile Food Pantry to Washington County. In June, the pantry will stop in Riverside and Brighton to help families facing food insecurity.
When and Where
- Riverside: Hall Park on Thursday, June 3rd, from 11 a.m. to noon.
- Brighton: Gym at Main and Mechanic on Saturday, June 5th, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
HACAP’s Mobile Food Pantry is just one of the ways they tackle hunger in Southeast Iowa. They also run school pantries, senior programs, and a backpack program catering to children.
Who is HACAP?
Based in Hiawatha, HACAP serves nine counties in southeastern Iowa, including Washington County. They are a partner of Feeding America, a nationwide network aimed at alleviating hunger.
The Need for Support
Recent statistics show that food insecurity affects millions across the U.S. According to the USDA, approximately 10.5% of households experienced food insecurity in 2021. Programs like HACAP play a crucial role in helping families access nutritious food.
Community Response
People are very appreciative of these food pantry events. On social media, many residents express how much they value HACAP’s support. One recent comment highlighted, “This service has changed our lives for the better.”
As food pantries continue to address hunger, it’s vital for community members to stay informed and engaged. Every little bit helps, whether through participation or spreading the word.
