Austin Peay Alumna Maggie Glass Appointed Assistant Women’s Golf Coach: A New Chapter for Clarksville’s Sports Community

Clarksville, TN – After shining for four years on the Austin Peay women’s golf team, Maggie Glass has been named the assistant coach. Head coach Jessica Combs shared the news on Thursday.

“Maggie is a fantastic addition to our team,” Combs said. “She has shown great leadership and competitiveness throughout her time here. I’m excited to see her bring her positivity and insights to our players.”

Glass graduated from Austin Peay in May 2025, having been part of a historic moment in 2022 when the team won the Ohio Valley Conference Championship — their first title ever. Over her last two years, she participated in all 21 events, achieving a scoring average of 77.36 in her senior year. She notably finished second at the Saluki Invitational with her best score of 216.

“I’m thrilled about this new opportunity,” Glass said. “This program truly embodies what it means to be a ‘Total Gov.’ I’m grateful to Coach Combs for this chance and to Mrs. Sara Robson for her unwavering support. I hope to inspire our players just as they have inspired me.”

In her academic life, Glass was consistently recognized for her achievements. She earned the Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar honor three times and made the Dean’s List every semester. She also received the OVC Academic Medal of Honor for the 2021-22 year.

A McKenzie, Tennessee native, Glass holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and is eager to shape the future of APSU women’s golf through her coaching journey.

Looking at trends in sports coaching, young former athletes becoming coaches is on the rise. According to a recent survey by the NCAA, over 60% of college athletes want to work in sports after graduation, and many are stepping into coaching roles right away. This trend is reshaping how teams approach training and mentorship, driving innovation in coaching strategies. Glass’s transition reflects this wave, blending her fresh experience with established coaching wisdom.

As sports evolve, having leaders like Glass can inspire new generations of athletes. Her journey shows that the path from player to coach can bring valuable perspectives and foster team unity.
