Brussels recently welcomed an Indian delegation led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad. This visit focused on strengthening ties with the Indian diaspora and key think tanks in the city. The delegation emphasized India’s strong stance against cross-border terrorism, especially following the tragic attack in Pahalgam on April 22. Diaspora members voiced their support for India’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism.
The delegation paid respects to Mahatma Gandhi at the Indian Embassy, highlighting India’s commitment to peace and non-violence. Before the meeting with diaspora members, Indian Ambassador Saurabh Kumar shared insights about India’s strategic priorities, particularly in counter-terrorism.
Prasad shared on social media, “We arrived in Brussels and thank Ambassador Kumar for the warm welcome. Our two-day visit aims to enhance international cooperation against cross-border terrorism through important discussions.”
During their stay, the delegation will hold meetings with European Union representatives and Belgian officials to address terrorism’s global threat. This comes in the wake of recent attacks, emphasizing the urgency of a united response. A statement from the Indian Embassy echoed this determination, stressing that these discussions will focus on India’s resolve to tackle terrorism in all its forms.
The nine-member delegation includes representatives from various political backgrounds, showcasing India’s commitment to a diverse approach in its diplomatic efforts. This visit follows their outreach in France, Italy, Denmark, and the UK, all part of a broader strategy to underline Operation Sindoor and India’s fight against terrorism supported by external actors.
In recent years, cross-border terrorism has affected multiple nations, leading to increased global focus on international cooperation. According to a 2022 report by the Institute for Economics and Peace, global terrorism caused over 26,000 deaths in a single year, highlighting the urgent need for collaborative action.
As the world navigates these challenges, diplomatic dialogues like these play a crucial role in fostering understanding and cooperation among nations. Balancing security concerns with diplomatic efforts can be a delicate task, but conversations like those in Brussels are essential for building partnerships that can effectively address these pressing issues.
