Uncovering the Nintendo Switch 2: Exclusive First Teardown Reveals Hidden Features!

It’s June 5th in some areas, and that means the Nintendo Switch 2 is out. Before even the first reviews hit the internet, the YouTube channel ProModding shared a 17-minute teardown video showing off the console’s custom Nvidia processor.

The teardown isn’t too complicated. However, Nintendo has cleverly hidden some screws and latches behind stickers. If you have the right tools and don’t mind voiding the warranty, it’s doable.

While the video doesn’t reveal much about the internal hardware, ProModding made a few interesting observations. The Joy-Con controllers seem to attach more securely to the Switch 2 compared to the original, but there’s still a bit of wobble. Interestingly, Nintendo appears to be using the same thermal paste as on the original Switch. Some gamers have experimented with upgrading this paste to boost their console’s performance.

Another point raised in the teardown is the support stand on the back. Reviewers found it “too flimsy” and noted a “high risk of breakage” when trying to adjust it from one side.

For a deeper look at the repairability, we might need to wait for iFixit’s teardown. Recently, iFixit downgraded the original Switch’s repair score from 8 out of 10 to 4 out of 10. This revision considers the battery setup and advancements by competitors like Valve’s Steam Deck, rather than just the notorious Joy-Con issues.

Overall, the early feedback on the Switch 2 hints at both improvements and lingering quirks. As players get more hands-on experience, we can expect a wider range of opinions to emerge soon.
