Mark Your Calendar: By-Election Date Announced for Penticton City Council!

Penticton is gearing up for its second city council by-election of 2025. This comes after the resignation of Helena Konanz, who was the MP for Similkameen—South Okanagan—West Kootenay. The election will take place on August 23.

The city plans to spend $75,000 on this by-election, funded by its general surplus. Starting June 9, you can grab candidate nomination packages from the city’s website or at City Hall. Nomination documents can be submitted from July 8 to July 18 during regular business hours.

During a special city council meeting on June 4, Angie Collison was appointed Chief Election Officer. Paula McKinnon and Hayley Anderson will serve as deputies.

If you want to vote early, advanced voting is set for August 13 and 14. All polling on voting day and during advance voting will happen at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre, open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

This by-election follows another one held earlier this year on April 5, when Jason Reynen was elected to replace Amelia Boultbee, who became the MLA for Penticton-Summerland.

It’s interesting to note that by-elections often reflect broader trends in political engagement.
