Prime Minister Narendra Modi will kick off the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL) project in Jammu & Kashmir on June 6, 2025. This 272-kilometer railway will drastically improve transport in the region, providing all-weather connectivity to Kashmir. Along with this, he will also unveil the stunning Chenab and Anji Khad bridges.

Starting June 7, two new Vande Bharat Express trains will run from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Srinagar. Initially, the trains will not go all the way to Jammu due to ongoing redevelopments at the Jammu Tawi station.

Significance of the USBRL Project

The USBRL is one of India’s significant rail projects, constructed at a cost of ₹43,780 crore. It’s designed to navigate the challenging Himalayan landscape, featuring 36 tunnels and 943 bridges. These developments connect remote areas and boost trade and tourism in Jammu and Kashmir.

Two key engineering feats are the Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest railway arch bridge, and the Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed bridge.

Features for Passengers

The Vande Bharat Express trains are built to handle extreme winter weather, functioning effectively even at temperatures as low as -20°C. With heated windscreens and insulated restrooms, they promise a comfortable ride year-round.

Conclusion

This railway project will not only enhance connectivity but also foster economic growth in the region, making travel easier for locals and tourists alike. As Kashmir opens its arms wider to the world through this railway link, the socio-economic landscape is bound to transform, paving the way for a brighter future.
