ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Police have arrested a man for stealing two valuable instruments belonging to the rock band Heart. This theft took place at a venue where the band was preparing for their upcoming tour.

Surveillance footage helped authorities identify a 57-year-old man from Pleasantville. The video showed him walking through Atlantic City, attempting to sell the stolen instruments. One has been sold, while the other is still missing. He now faces charges of burglary and theft.

Heart was about to kick off their “An Evening With Heart” tour at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Among the stolen items is a custom purple sparkle baritone Telecaster guitar made for Nancy Wilson and a vintage 1966 Gibson EM-50 mandolin played by Paul Moak for over 25 years.

Nancy expressed her heartbreak in a statement, emphasizing the deep personal value of these instruments: “They’re extensions of our musical souls.” The band is offering a reward for information that leads to their return, with no questions asked.

Heart, led by Nancy and her sister Ann, has been making music since the 1970s. They are known for hits like “Magic Man” and “Alone.” In 2023, they received a lifetime achievement award from the Recording Academy, highlighting their significant impact on rock music.

The theft highlights a troubling trend in the music industry. Musicians often see their instruments as irreplaceable parts of their identity. According to a recent survey by the Music Industry Research Association, over 40% of musicians have reported losing or having their instruments stolen at some point in their careers.
