Discover the New Community Store at Twelve Baskets Food Pantry: Empowering Local Families!

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Twelve Baskets Food Pantry in Portage recently launched its new community store to tackle growing food insecurity in the region. This store offers new and gently used items at prices that are often 75% less than retail. You can find clothing, kitchen appliances, toys, and more for as little as $1.

Organizers highlighted the vital role of the community in this project. Robin Tullock, a board member, expressed gratitude: "Our community is great. We depend on them to keep our doors open. Just look at all the support we have!"

The renovation took about nine months, fueled by the dedication of volunteers and local donors. Currently, Twelve Baskets helps around 350 families every week by providing a grocery cart full of food two times a month.

Food insecurity is a pressing issue. According to a recent survey by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, over 10% of households in the U.S. faced food shortages in 2022. Efforts like those of Twelve Baskets are crucial as they address these ongoing challenges.

The community store hours are Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more details, you can visit their website here.
