Discover Roost: The Ultimate Fried Chicken Experience in Jerusalem – Our Honest Review!

You can find schnitzel in many spots around Jerusalem, but Roost offers a unique twist with its American-style fried chicken sandwiches. Owner Ephraim Greenblatt explains the inspiration: “There’s a trend all over the US for fried chicken sandwiches. This is our nod to that.”

The chicken here is special. It’s brined in pickle juice and held together with parve buttermilk before being fried in seasoned flour.

### Taste Test at Roost

I tried Roost’s classic sandwich for NIS 68: a crispy Southern fried chicken cutlet with pickles, fresh lettuce, and their signature sauce, all on a soft bun. It was fantastic.

My husband opted for the “Make It Hurt Doc” for the same price. This version features the chicken cutlet with a spicy Nashville coleslaw, pickled hot peppers, and jalapeño aioli. He found it “spicy but delicious.”

Another standout was the “From Buffalo with Love,” also NIS 68. It offers a tasty twist with house-made Buffalo sauce, coleslaw, and red onion.

Not one to miss out on sides, we also tried the “Poppers” for NIS 68. These bite-sized fried chicken pieces come in both Buffalo sauce and Chipotle Maple. They were crispy and quickly became my favorite.

For those preferring something lighter, Roost features a Southern quinoa bowl (NIS 68) with grilled chicken, quinoa, and vegetables. I saved most of it for lunch the next day!

The fries (NIS 28) were decent, but I’d have preferred more Poppers. To drink, we chose a Frosé (NIS 32), a refreshing rosé slushie that I first enjoyed at Greenblatt’s other restaurant, Hatch.

Roost has enough seating but functions like a fast food spot. You order at a kiosk, making it quick to get your meal. They also offer delivery through Wolt, though it costs a bit more than dining in.
