Mo’ Bettahs in Mansfield brings a slice of Hawaii to the mainland. Founded in 2008 by brothers Kimo and Kalani Mack, it started in Utah and now has 65 locations across several states, including Texas and Oklahoma. Their mission? To serve authentic Hawaiian flavors, straight from their island home.
During a recent visit to the Mansfield location, I enjoyed a delightful lunch with my friend Chris Waits. The menu features appetizing plate lunches with choices like grilled teriyaki chicken, kalua pig, and katsu chicken. Each meal comes with a scoop of macaroni salad and rice, making it a hearty experience.
I opted for a lunch plate with shrimp tempura and pulled pork, while Chris chose teriyaki chicken and beef. We also shared a tasty teriyaki chicken pake salad. Each bite was packed with flavor—definitely comfort food at its best. For dessert, we couldn’t resist the Small Kine cookies, a sweet Hawaiian treat that perfectly rounded off our meal.
The prices are quite affordable, with mini plates starting at $9.99 and larger options available for about $13.99. For a larger feast, the “Ekolu” plate with three meats is just $17.99. It’s an appealing option for anyone looking to indulge in Hawaiian cuisine without breaking the bank.
District Manager Curtis Walker shared the restaurant’s philosophy: more than just great food, the Mack brothers want to share the spirit of aloha and familial warmth. Their “Mo’ Olelo,” or story, is prominently displayed on a wall, reflecting their commitment to love in cooking and sharing meals with others. It emphasizes a welcoming atmosphere, where plates are filled with care and relationships are built over food.
The casual décor at the Mansfield location adds to the experience. Colorful surfboards adorn the walls, each with a history connected to the waters of Hawaii. The restaurant exudes a warm, island vibe that makes dining there feel special.
