Exciting Collaboration: Mumbai Firm Teaming Up with State to Launch Helicopter Manufacturing Facility in Nagpur

Mumbai’s Max Aerospace and Aviation has just signed an important agreement with the state government to build a helicopter manufacturing plant in Nagpur. They plan to invest a whopping ₹8,000 crore over the next eight years.

At the signing event, attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, it was discussed how this facility will create around 2,000 jobs, both directly and indirectly. Operations are expected to start by 2026, bringing a significant boost to local employment.

Fadnavis highlighted that this project fits perfectly with the government’s “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives. He noted that it would establish Nagpur as a major aerospace manufacturing hub.

The new plant will specialize in customizing, integrating, and flight testing helicopters. This marks a key milestone, as it’s Maharashtra’s first facility dedicated solely to producing helicopters.

Bharat Malkani, chairperson of Max Aerospace, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating it would not only contribute to India’s defense strategies but also strengthen the aerospace supply chain in the region.

This development is not just about jobs; it’s about nurturing expertise and infrastructure in aerospace. According to a recent report from the Aerospace and Defence Manufacturing Institute (ADMI), the Indian aerospace market is expected to reach $70 billion by 2030. Projects like this could play a pivotal role in meeting that goal.

With government support and industry commitment, the future for aerospace manufacturing in India looks promising.
