TAR HEEL, N.C. (WBTV) – A worker tragically died at the Smithfield Foods plant in Tar Heel, North Carolina, as reported by WECT.

The incident occurred on Highway 87, a central hub for the small town. According to a Smithfield spokesperson, the worker suffered a medical emergency, but specifics weren’t disclosed. CPR and other lifesaving measures were attempted at the scene.

The North Carolina Occupational Safety and Health Division has been informed and will be involved in the investigation. A company representative expressed their sorrow, stating, “We are deeply saddened by this loss, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of our co-worker.”

As of now, the identity of the worker has not been released. Smithfield Foods is known for producing a range of meat products, including bacon and ham.
