Join the Movement: GreenHubAfrica Launches WEDex, a Dynamic Climate Action Network for Youth Empowerment

GreenHubAfrica has launched a new platform called the Climate Action SuperHeroes (CASH) Youth Network. This initiative aims to train and empower 50,000 young leaders in climate-smart practices and circular economy ventures. The announcement took place during a hybrid event held at UN House in Abuja, coinciding with World Environment Day Exhibition (WEDex) 2025.

Henry Bassey, the founder and CEO of GreenHubAfrica, emphasized the need for a greener Africa. He highlighted the significant job opportunities in waste management and how engaging the youth can benefit both the economy and the environment. "Youth involvement is key," he noted.

WEDex has evolved since its inception in 2020 as a virtual event due to COVID-19. Now, it has transformed into a movement, providing a platform for annual webinars, podcasts, and discussions aimed at actionable climate solutions.

World Environment Day was established in 1972 by the United Nations to encourage awareness and promote environmental protection. Bassey reflected on the progress made through WED annual events, which have shifted conversations into public-private partnerships that yield tangible outcomes.

Mohamed Malick Fall, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, addressed the issue of plastic pollution. He revealed that plastics make up 13% of Nigeria’s total waste. Proper management of this waste could lead to job creation and boost investments in the sector.

Experts like Henry Inegbu from Family Homes Funds Limited are already exploring innovative solutions. His organization is training participants to turn plastic waste into building materials. This could be a game-changer in affordable housing.

Additionally, Olapeju Ibekwe of Sterling One Foundation stressed the importance of collaboration across sectors to tackle plastic pollution. The goal is a significant reduction in plastic waste by 2030, which won’t be achieved without combined efforts.

This movement not only aims to foster climate awareness but also to actively engage the next generation in creating solutions for the pressing environmental challenges we face today. The stakes are high, and the need for action is now more urgent than ever.
