Midwestern State University Breaks Ground on New Military Education Center: A Step Forward for Veteran Training and Support

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – Midwestern State University (MSU) has officially started building its new Military Education Center, an initiative aimed at supporting active-duty military members and their educational goals.

MSU President Stacia Haynie highlighted how this center fits into the university’s broader mission. “Our strategic plan focuses on education, access, and community partnership. This center will help us achieve those aims,” she said.

Wichita Falls Mayor Tim Short emphasized the center’s role in simplifying the educational process. “It’ll be a one-stop shop for course enrollment and advising. This makes it easier for service members who often juggle multiple responsibilities,” he noted. “When service members move to their next station, they can continue their studies online, ensuring they can finish their degree wherever they are.”

For service members like 2nd Lieutenant Braden Gaab, this center represents an invaluable opportunity. “It’s amazing to balance my military career and education. I’m grateful for the chance to grow in both areas,” Gaab said.

The Military Education Center aims to open by next fall, providing much-needed resources and support for those who serve. Such initiatives reflect a growing recognition of the importance of education in military life. According to a 2022 survey by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation, nearly 68% of service members value institutions that understand their unique challenges, further stressing the significance of centers like the one MSU is building.

As education evolves, institutions across the nation are taking similar steps. This trend not only benefits military personnel but enriches campuses by fostering a diverse learning environment.
